CeeLo + The Roots + TWT = Jimmy Fallon Heaven

In this journey of music and life we have found ourselves in some beautifully spontaneous places.  Our path brought us to NYC, to the stage at NBC performing with The ROOTS and CeeLo Green on Jimmy Fallon.  Whaaaattt??

It's true, we were there and have the pictures to prove it!  During those 48 hours in New York City we got to experience music on another level with performers whose musical tastes and abilities showed the knowledge of their craft... impressed!  CeeLo and the ROOTS were not only a dream to perform with, but the vibe felt as though we had been playing and hangin' together for years.  Good people.

These surreal experiences add to the MAGIC that is music and the "MUSIC TO MY SOUL".

Jessie Baylin & TWT at Musicians Corner

Musicians Corner, Centennial Park, Nashville, TN

Hats and boots required on this chilly start to October!  We joined one of our FAVS, Jessie Baylin, for a set on October 3rd at Centennial Park.  Set included songs from Jessie's record, LITTLE SPARK, an album we recorded together in LA a few years back... as well as her new release DARK PLACE (it's AMAZING, if you don't have it... get it!).

HIGHLIGHT: The Nashville Band, ESCONDIDO, opened and warmed the stage with one of the sweet tracks off their debut record "Black Roses".

SMALL BATCH PRESENTS | the watson twins & holler design

A few months ago Small Batch Presents reached out to us about doing a collaboration with one of our favorite craftsman/designers here in NASHVILLE and we said "YES"!  Matt Alexander of Holler Design was one of the first folks we met here in town and our paths continue to cross... so in turn, we create!  This was a cold day in Matt's shop, but after a few strums of the guitar and some warming up we performed one of our favorite tunes and the title track from our first record "Southern Manners".

Lucky for us our long time friend and producer, Russ Pollard, came out to play some acoustic guitar and Stanton Edward joined in on electric.  These two gentlemen have done several of our last live performances and we love playin' with them!

The creatives at Small Batch Presents have done such an amazing job on this series featuring our local creatives and setting them to music.  Check out their whole series and get inspired!

Thanks guys!!

True Blood, True Love

True Blood meets TWT

True Blood meets TWT

On our record Fire Songs we went out on a limb and recorded a cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven".  The tune had been on a top 100 of all time that year and I couldn't help but be taken back to the time it was released (1987's record Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) and how 20 years later it was still such a relevant, well crafted song!!!  Our TWT version came easily (we already knew all the words:), and it settled into our country tinged slope like it was written for that tempo.

Music Supervisor and DJ Gary Calamar

Music Supervisor and DJ Gary Calamar

In 2008, TV show True Blood hit the scene and music supervisor Gary Calamar curated a soundtrack for the show that was just as steamy!  When we got word he wanted to use our version on the show, the choice to go "out on a limb" didn't feel so crazy anymore.  Now 6 years later we still love singing that song and thanks to Gary there are alot of folks who first heard of The Watson Twins and our cover of "Just Like Heaven" on True Blood.

Last week in an interview with The Huffington Post Gary chatted about his favorite "soundtrack moments" in the show and our track made that list.  Check out this fantastic interview here!

Thanks Gary!!

Louisville is our hometown and we love singing there... especially when it's with one of our longtime friends Jenny Lewis!  Forecastle 2014 had an amazing line-up and we finished off the weekend sitting in on her set Sunday evening.  TWT joined in on some of our old Rabbit Fur Coat jams (the favorite "Rise Up With Fists") and some tracks off her new record The Voyager ("Head Underwater").  It was a special evening and the first time the three of us had been on stage in the river city!!

Lewis' new record The Voyager comes out today July 29th, 2014, so don't forget to grab a copy!  We were honored to sing on a few tracks and can't wait for the next time the stars align and this little trio gets to sing together again!!

TWT on Salon.com!

Take a listen to our interview on www.salon.com for the weekly feed feature!!  Kyle Meredith of WFPK Louisville seemed to ask all the right questions leading us to divulge our darkest secrets... about influences, inspirations, harmonies and how we felt when we saw Nirvana's video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

20 Feet from Stardom

There is nothing like a harmony... notes coming together to make one chord.  We have spent the last decade (and more) celebrating this feeling and that moment.

20ftstardom

A few months ago we watched the award winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom... the story familiar, heartbreaking... yet triumphant.  In May, we spoke Kyle Meredith (of WFPK Louisville) & PASTE Magazine for their "Catching Up..." feature... check it out here and read about our transition to writing "happy" songs and the journey from the back of the stage to the front!

A Little Spark for the New Year!!

A few years ago we had the pleasure of singing on a record called "Little Spark".  It was the creation of a very talented singer/songwriter named Jessie Baylin.  That recording sparked a friendship, a long line of shows and now a week from tonight we will reunite at a club in Nashville, TN called the Mercy Lounge!!!!  We are really excited to get this lil' trio back together!!!  The Watson Twins will be opening and singing with Jessie for her set.  If you haven't heard the Little Spark record you can stream on sound cloud ... believe me you won't be sorry, it's a really beauty.
